Young people at MMAD suffer emotionally and socially from traumatic childhood experiences. For them, expressing their pain in lyrics, finding their voice in singing and escaping the world through music has helped them survive.
Many young people impacted by MMAD have found positive new direction by using their own talents to give back and help shape the lives of others who experience hardship. Young people from MMAD become the musicians making a difference, bettering our streets by overcoming personal adversity and becoming the hope to the homeless, the inspiration to the disheartened and the role model to the misdirected.
As a result of this impact, MMAD has grown from a voluntary project to an organisation with a national reach. Involvement from well-known musicians, dedication from MMAD’s talented and passionate team, and the power of partner support, has allowed MMAD to provide hope, resources and avenues for positive change in some of the most isolated and troubled but beautiful parts of Australia.
MMAD reaches up to 100 young people every weekday across a number of NSW, QLD, VIC & SA suburbs. We travel to provide community response to remote Indigenous areas and disaster affected regions as resources become available or need arises.
Our 15 MMAD initiatives include intensive crisis mentorship, street outreach, creative mentoring, youth support groups, alternative education, emotional expression workshops, specialised camp programs, youth leadership challenges and social enterprise. Young people are the inspiration for all innovation, creativity and impact within our very MMAD organisation.
We deliver over 1000 camps, outreach initiatives and mentoring sessions for the Australian community each year, reaching up to 50,000 young people nationwide.
Importantly, we have a number of key values that maintain our grass-roots culture, heart, and excellence as we grow, including a belief that it takes a village to raise a child. We are proud to unite with other charities, institutes, corporations, community groups and specialists to ensure all young people receive every opportunity to overcome personal adversity, follow new dreams, and live their full potential.
Every young person deserves a family.
