If writing and recording music is your dream, then an Australian charity is offering young people an opportunity of a lifetime in Surry Hills over the next school term. Aspiring artists aged between 13 and 21 can take part in a free 10 week music and mentoring program run by Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) At Australian Institute Of Music, beginning on the 16th May 4pm-6pm.
MMAD is a national charity organisation that wants to see every young person have someone believe in them, and gives young people the opportunity to reach their full potential.
When Mirrae Youssef heard about MMAD, she knew instantly she had to be involved. “It’s so important when you’re young to have people believing in you. The “Sound Foundations” program offers mentors, such as myself, who will help you achieve your dreams.” Mirrae is the Sydney coordinator and also teaches vocals and performance in the program.
The “Sound Foundations” course will give you the basics of songwriting, production, recording, the music industry as well as equipping you with some tools to have a foundation in realizing young people’s full potential.
“Everything you need to know about music is in this 10 week course and it’s absolutely free,” says Evan Lawrie, National Sound Foundations Co-ordinator and mentor at MMAD. “Our vision is to provide a supportive, creative environment where young people can be themselves. Participants may then continue with other opportunities at Sony or Universal music studios, who are generously supporting the program.”
In other MMAD programs across Australia it is common to get a visit from MMAD ambassadors such as Justice Crew, Bliss N Eso, Casey Donovan & Prinnie Stevens will pop in just to give that extra bit of support and inspiration to young people.

About MMAD
Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD) Inc is an Australian charity that exists to change young lives through music. MMAD uses the power of music, dance & mentoring to inspire young people to make their lives remarkable.
We provide creative support to young people, (especially those who have suffered emotional abuse, neglect and disadvantage) in overcoming challenges such as homelessness, destructive patterns of behaviour, exclusion from school, family breakdown, drug and alcohol dependency, unemployment and reoffending.
Our goal is not only to break negative cycles but to empower our young people to go on and make their own difference within the community.
