Media Policy

Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) welcomes opportunities to share the stories and impact of our work through external media. To ensure the safety, dignity, and privacy of our young people, team members, and community, the following policy must be adhered to by all external media, film crews, photographers, content creators and associated personnel.

1. Pre-Approval Required

All external media engagements and any use of MMAD-related content must receive prior written approval from MMAD’s Compliance Coordinator. Direct contact with MMAD participants, staff, or representatives is strictly prohibited unless explicitly arranged and supervised.

Requests must be submitted via email to rep@mmad.org.au, and must include:

  • The purpose of the media or content

  • The key message and/or call to action

  • Proposed release date and distribution platforms

  • Anticipated timeframe for content use

  • Intended audience

Approval is not guaranteed and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

2. Supervision During Media Engagements

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, a designated MMAD staff member must be present at all times during any media engagement involving MMAD participants, team members, or activities.

3. Final Approval and Right to Rescind

All media content- including audio, video, and written materials - must be submitted for final approval before being shared privately, internally, or publicly. This includes undergoing MMAD’s internal review and consent process.

MMAD reserves the right to rescind previously granted approvals at any time, particularly in response to changes in the safety, privacy, or wellbeing of the young people or team members involved.

Approved content may not be re-edited, repurposed, or retold in any form without further written consent. All raw or unused footage must be deleted once final approvals are provided and the project is complete.

4. Privacy and Confidentiality

Under no circumstances may the following be revealed or shared:

  • Full names, contact details, or locations of young people

  • Faces or identifying features (e.g., school uniforms, name tags) of current program participants

  • Suburbs where young people reside or attend MMAD (only general regions may be referenced)

  • Personal or contact details of staff, ambassadors, clients, or board members without explicit consent

  • Any information indicating that a young person is in foster care or out-of-home care

  • Any proprietary knowledge gained through association with MMAD

  • Any confidential or sensitive information obtained, unless pre-approved for specific media purposes
